Who is our ideal candidate? We are looking for a designer who uses Mac OS X, can lay out advertising pages in QuarkXPress, can scan graphics and do minor touch-ups in PhotoShop as needed, can design cute, youthful ads that girls will enjoy, can produce ad pages quickly without sacrificing quality, and is dependable, easy going, and can work under tight deadlines. Spirit Productions is acompany that produces the National American Miss pageants for girls ages 4 to 20. We have produced youth pageants for more than 24 years. When will you be working? Some production Artists will work from May 1st through August 28. Most weeks, Artists will work Monday through Friday, approximately 8:30 to 5:30, but a few hours of overtime will be required. We are planning one or two days off for Memorial Day weekend (unpaid holiday time), but time off is highly unlikely for Independence Day, as we will be especially busy at that time. Blocks of time off (i.e. a week for vacation) can not be permitted, but an occasional day off is possible depending on our workload and deadlines that week. Where will you be working? The Spirit Productions office is located on the West side of Houston near I-10 (Katy Freeway) and Beltway 8. Why should you spend your summer with us? Better money than you can earn at a lot of summer jobs: $10 per hour, paychecks are handed out weekly, an end-of-summer bonus will be given for those who stay with us through the end of August, and you will gain good experience in your chosen field as well as published pieces to put in your portfolio. You will create 8-12 pages of ads per day, which will be published in the pageant program books that are given/sold at the pageants. You will work with professionals who have 12+ years of experience in the design and/or advertising field. We are easygoing and happy to share tips of the trade. We have a casual work environment. No dress code, as long as all the important parts are covered. Most people wear jeans and a t-shirt or other comfortable top. We listen to music all day but you are welcome to bring headphones and an iPod/Discman/etc so you can listen to something else if you prefer. How do you apply? Check out our website at www.namiss.com to get more information about our company, then E-mail fsutherland@namiss.com or lsproles@namiss.com with a cover letter and resume. We will schedule interviews throughout April. You do not have to bring a portfolio, but it is preferred. If you do not have one put together yet, don't worry. Just bring in a few finished pieces we can see. They don't need to be mounted or bound. After the interview you will take a practical test to show off some of your production skills.
